Leadership

Taking initiative and leading with a purpose to collaborate towards a common objective has been my constant endeavor. Through orchestrating the TEDx event and assuming the role of editor-in-chief for the school magazine, I have honed my abilities in dealing with ambiguity and meticulous planning.

TEDxYouth

Since 2017,  TEDxYouth@SJII has been a successful student-initiated and led event held at SJI International. This has provided a platform for students & faculty, and members from the wider Singaporean community to share their valuable insights in the spirit of TED talks.

As the Assistant Lead Organiser of TEDxYouth@SJII2022, I led the TEDx Executive Committee team and spearheaded the planning and execution of the event. I was in charge of applying for a TEDx license for the TED organization, as well as formulating the proposal presented to the school's Senior Leadership Team for the approval of our event.

Leading from the front, I was involved in selecting the rest of the team and overseeing the sub-committees for Finance, Curators, Events and Communication & Marketing to  ensure efficient management of each of these workstreams. My primary responsibilities included advising and guiding the subcommittees on their specific responsibilities, driving timelines and deliverables and to provide direction on key matters such as deciding the topic for the event, selecting the speakers, timely communication and marketing of the event, planning of logistics and seeking and managing finances.

This event was about 1.5 Years in the making with a lot of hard work involved by the Executive team with our final event being hosted on the 1st of April 2022, with numerous highs and lows along the way due to the uncertainty of the COVID regulations in Singapore. This forced us to prepare for both in-person and online events. I am incredibly proud of my team for adapting and giving our best in making this event as successful as it was.

TEDxYouth@SJII2023. I selected the new Executive Committee for the next event and continue to advise and guide them on timelines, the overall TedX process and the challenges that they should prepare for, so that they make informed decisions and plan appropriately. All the best team 2023!

While the experience was very enriching with immense learnings for me in organizational and people skills, my biggest lifelong learning was that only when we push the boundaries of our comfort zone, do we grow and learn!

Open Book

One Voice

One Voice is SJII’s quarterly school magazine run by the students. I was involved with the magazine for the last 4 years having played various roles - Writer, Literary Feature Editor and finally assuming the role of Editor-in-chief in 2022.

As Literary Feature Editor, I was assigned a group of writers and was responsible for helping them identify the topic, research with them to make their writing relevant, and finally edit their work to be ready for publication. While I was grooming the new writers, I myself learned so much during the process that it sharpened my ideas and writing skills.

Taking over as the Editor-in-Chief, my role was to plan the entire quarterly publications. This included brainstorming and identifying the theme for the quarter, planning the team sessions, creating excitement and motivating the students to write, assigning the literary feature editors, managing timelines, reviewing the designs and working with internal publicity team and social media people.
